When is this Challenge?

This is a virtual event, so you can do it whenever you want! All participants must register and complete the challenge by May 3, 2021.

How do I participate?

Register online. You can run, walk, bike, swim, hike, roll, paddle, use a mobility aid, etc. Heck, you can even skip or walk backwards if you want to.

You may opt to participate in our Prediction Palooza, where you predict what your finish time will be.

Once you have completed your outing, send proof of participation to yourway5kinfo@gmail.com or tag us on social media.

How much does it cost?

Officially participating in the Challenge requires a $5.00 minimum donation to the Digital Green Book Website fundraiser. Feeling inspired by the cause? We encourage you to donate more if you are able and share, share, share!

Who should I contact if I need an accommodation?

If you need accommodations, no need to even contact us unless you want to! We aren't worried about the distance you cover or how you do it, as long as you get outside and have fun. Mobility aids and OPDMDs are welcome. If you have any questions, feel free to email yourway5kinfo@gmail.com.

Prediction Palooza Participants (OPTIONAL) - How do I complete my 1-mile or 5k without tracking time?

In a digital age where many of us rely on watches to track mileage, how the heck do we track a 5k? Here are a few ideas and suggestions:

  • Map out your route in advance by using platforms like All Trails, Map My Run, or Strava.

  • Do a test run with your watch and identify start/end markers for next time.

  • If there is a school track near you that is available to the public, run circles around that ol' tried and true.

  • Download the Runkeeper app to your phone. Select "Workout" and adjust Distance to 5k and Audio Stats to 5k. It will notify you when that distance is complete.

Whatever method you choose, make sure your platform is not giving you split times each mile. You can run with your watch or phone to record your route and time, but put it in a place where you won't be tempted to look!

How do you know that Prediction Palooza participants aren't cheating?

Truth be told, we don't. This is completely on the honor system and we trust that participants are doing this in the spirit of giving, fun, and getting outdoors.

Winning prediction prizes will be small. It's the raffle prizes you'll really want!

How do I become eligible to win a prize?

First, you must complete your registration. There are four categories of prizes you may be eligible for:

  1. Grand Prize Raffle - Everyone who registers will be entered to win.

  2. Prediction Palooza - This "race" is unique in that the fastest runners do not win. The person whose completion times are closest to their prediction times will win a fun prize (in addition to fame, kudos, and bragging rights).

  3. Sharing is Caring - Get social! Tag Your Way5k and Inclusive Journeys on your social media.

  4. Outside the Box - Get creative! Walk backgrounds, skip, unicycle, bounce on a pogo stick. Whatever you want! The most creative finisher will win a prize.

What if I want to be entered for the raffle but am unable to participate in the challenge itself?

Not to worry! You may still register to be entered for the raffle, though you will not be eligible for the winning prediction prizes.

I am burned out on Virtual Races. Why should I participate in this one?

First off, this is not a race! It's a fun way to approach outdoor recreation from a different angle. Most importantly, donations are going to a good cause.

Why is this fundraiser so important?

As much as we want an inclusive, equitable society free of unconscious & conscious bias, prejudice, and discrimination, the fact of the matter is that we have a long way to go. The Digital Green Book will help people of marginalized identities identify safe and inclusive spaces and provide resources to help businesses improve.

This website is for everyone. In addition to exploring racial inclusivity, it will be fully intersectional and will provide additional resources for the LGBTQIA+ community, those who need ADA/Accessibility information, and more. Even us white folx can benefit from the website.
